District Leadership Team Institute: Leveraging Blueprint Systems to Move Upstream

This institute is designed for teams of district leaders.

If others from your district/organization ARE NOT registered to attend this event the content will not be as meaningful and useful. This is a one-day virtual institute designed for teams of district leaders.


As a culmination of our year-long Upstream work, we are thrilled to have the book’s author, Dan Heath, join us for a closing endnote address. Dan will deliver a critical message for school leaders seeking to shift their energies upstream.

Recommended Audience: District Leadership Teams and their supporting ISD/MDE partners

Tentative Schedule:

8:45 – 9:15 am – Networking Sessions – Choice of 2 topics (optional)

9:30 am – 12:00 pm – Main Session (interactive with breakout rooms)

12:00 – 1:00 pm – Lunch break

12:15 – 12:45 pm – Networking Session (optional)

1:00 – 2:15 pm – District Team Breakout Sessions

2:30 – 3:30 pm – Endnote Speaker and Wrap Up

  • Your registration for this institute provides you with access to all presentations, materials, schedules, and communication regarding the event.
  • Cost – The institute is free to attend; registration is required.
  • SCECHs – Up to 5.5 SCECHs can be earned dependent upon the number of sessions attended.

The morning will guide teams through reflection intended to support a mindset and a process of continuous improvement, data use, and upstream thinking. Teams will have the opportunity to identify priorities and determine how to refine, create, and operationalize systems to support those priorities for the 2021-22 school year.

In the early afternoon, teams will engage in facilitator-supported planning time to connect district systems with identified priorities. This time will support teams with ongoing systems implementation and help identify areas of need for professional learning, including planning for the August Blueprint Institute. This will be a powerful opportunity for your district leadership team to envision the next steps for your systems work!

In addition, there will be optional, topic-specific networking sessions offered prior to the general session in the morning and during the lunch break. These sessions will:

  • allow for networking with your colleagues across the state around relevant issues facing districts today
  • not be content-driven, rather they will allow participants to engage in peer-to-peer discussion, resource sharing, and problem-solving
